The Legend Returns - June 15th at Reggae Park 420 Escape, Wakefield, Jamaica
“Love Is harmony, Love is a link. Our Music points to a better world for those who are oppressed and for those who simply believe a better world is possible."
- Winston Rodney (Burning Spear)
Grammy Award winning, Jamaican roots reggae singer-songwriter, vocalist, and musician Winston Rodney OD, known by reggae music lovers around the world by his stage name, Burning Spear, will literally be returning home June 15th for the Reggae Jam International Festival 2024 at Reggae Park - 420 Escape in Wakefield Jamaica. His hometown of Saint Ann’s is just over an hour away, which is also where his chance meeting with Bob Marley in 1960 started his career.
As one of reggae music's most esteemed, distinctive voices for almost half a century, and most influential and long-standing roots artists to emerge from the 1970s, Burning Spear uses his artfully crafted lyrics and rhythm to continue to spread his message of Rastafarianism, resistance, resilience and love. Burning Spear’s return home to the birthplace of reggae to perform at Reggae Jam Festival 2024, at the most breathtaking venue imaginable in the Jamaican hills at Reggae Park – 420 Escape, means more than you can image to the people of Jamaica.
Owner and CEO of Reggae Park – 420 Escape, Dr. Donovan Forbes explains just how important their having Burning Spear perform in Jamaica really is.
“Let’s just pause for a moment and envision a Jamaica without reggae music. It’s a bleak and discouraging image. We believe that the initiatives to preserve reggae music are far too important to delay the process. We believe that the messages conveyed through reggae music are invaluable, and we cannot afford to lose them. Due to what we see as an urgent need, we have decided not to wait and bring Reggae Jam International to Reggae Park in the summer of 2024. Come out with your lighters and make this a historical occasion.”
For nearly four decades and more than 25 albums, Burning Spear has carried the torch of the gospel of political activist Marcus Garvey, promoting self-determination and self-reliance for African descendants through lyrics and rhythms that truly deliver the messages of peace and love to all.
Reggae Jam has partnered with Reggae Park 420 Escape, the only park in Jamaica, and venue dedicated to Reggae music, cannabis culture, and musical legends.
"The Reggae Jam International Festival promises to be epic and historical, providing a platform for artists and musicians to leave their footprint and legacy. We are thrilled to announce this momentous occasion."
